Loop.app on AppleWatch…

We are new to twitter so it’s too complicating to reply there, so here it is:

One person with the successful loop.app install on her watch told us “It just worked one day after trying many times…

So the list below are what we did that are different from the previous multiple attempts to get the watch app to install. (The loop-watch.app is listed in the phone’s watch.app but fails to install towards the tail end of the installation process.). You can skip to the bullet list at the bottom of this post, as some of our explanations probably don’t make much sense. They don’t make sense to us! LOL

We’ve suspected that the situation that we got ourselves into with two appleIDs on a single device (iCloud with one ID, iTunes on another ID for a phone) was causing this issue. We ended up in that situation because of a crappy roll-out of appleID scheme following .Mac account by Apple years ago. We’ve tied the two IDs on a single device by the means of Family Sharing… But we digress…

Surprisingly, removing the original “ownership” of devices by the appleID requires weird steps (at least for us). The ownership is claimed first by the appleID that first activated that particular device.

In fact, removing one appleID’s claim of ownership of the watch was surprisingly convoluted and difficult. We are not sure if it has been changed for real or not, still…

This is further complicated by the fact that the appleID log-in and log-out are performed outside the phone’s watch.app -> goes to an apple site browser… … and you are never sure if you are actually logged into the different account or not… In fact, at one point, both appleID appeared to have the claim over the watch…

This is further complicated by the fact that it is really difficult to change the password of one appleID via “lost my password” function, it actually changes the originating appleID’s password.

  • Attempted removal of “ownership” of the device (watch) from one AppleID and attempted re-syncing of the watch with the other AppleID (same as the phone’s). You would need to go to iCloud on a desktop browser and remove the watch from the “My Devices” list. This appeared to have not worked.
  • Used the latest Dev Branch (of two days ago’s). We’ve used Master and Omnipod branches in the past – the attempts all ended with failures…
  • We added a same letter to the version number in every Targets (see pic below). We did this to sort of keep track of if the build/copy was actually performed on the phone.
  • After the build was finished, before we attempted to install the loop.app to the watch from the phone, we tried to log-out of the AppStore w/in the watch.app on the phone and log into the same Apple ID as that of the phone. The feedback by this browser UI was very ambiguous, however.

… and it worked!
